Nestled in the middle of wonderful Mingus Park, the Mingus Park Pool is open year-round for different types of swimming. The pool is a public infrastructure maintained and operated by a private group organization, Mingus Park Pool Management. The pool supports a wonderful Lap Swim Program, summer programs for children to learn how to swim, and open swim times for the community. The pool is 25 yards long by 45 feet wide, has 6 swimming lanes, is 3.5 to 8 feet in depth, and is heated to between 81 and 83 degrees F (27-28 C).
Mingus Park Pool was first established in 1949. The swimming pool was redone in 1998 through donations from Mrs. Vera Richter. The Mingus Park Pool Bath House was rebuilt in 1999 from general obligation bonds.
Mingus Park Pool is also the aquatic center for Marshfield High School's swim team and the Gold Coast Swim Team (GCST). GCST annually hosts the biggest swim meet on the Southern Oregon Coast, The Big Kahuna, which brings over 300 swimmers and their families to the Bay Area each August.
The Mingus Park Pool is used for approximately 65,000 swims a year as well as provides a facility for Coast Guard testing, Marshfield High School Track Rehab/Training, Coos Bay Library End of Summer Program, Lifeguard Training for our pool and surrounding pools and the Medford area, Summer Youth Program from Bandon for lessons, pool safety trainings, and many more groups and team activities.
